Biodegradable cleaning products with a pleasant fragrance and comprehensive refill options – that’s La Bugadière.
In 2018, the company “La Bugadière” from Châtel-St-Denis in Fribourg set itself the goal of producing biodegradable care and cleaning products with a comprehensive product range and the option of refills. They are now sold in numerous pharmacies in western Switzerland.
With his background in pharmaceuticals, the founder of La Bugadière is well versed in chemical processes. Promoting the biodegradability of products was a key focus during the development of the product range. La Bugadière has developed products that can be broken down by microorganisms such as bacteria or fungi into components such as water and other substances that have no harmful effects on the environment.
What does “La Bugadière” mean?
In southern France, in Languedoc and Provence, the bugadière was essentially an employee or entrepreneur who did laundry on behalf of middle-class households or occasional customers. It was the first paid occupation for women. Bugadière comes from the Provençal (“bugadier”, laundry) and refers to a brick or clay structure resembling a cupboard, in which dirty laundry was stored with the ashes from the hearth above it.
