The legend of wine Johanneli is said to have been the first landlady on the Brigerberg in the 17th century. After closing time, she would secretly water down the wine barrel. One evening, a guest caught Johanneli in the act and she was banished from the village. No one ever saw her again. At the time, it was said that she would have to remain in the glacier waters as a lost soul for eternity to atone for her grave sin. But since the Aletsch Glacier began to melt, it is said that Johanneli has been set free. This is probably why the wine is available again, only this time it is said to be cleansed of her guilt.
